Discriminating Teens and Tweens Take a Look at These Finds

As a designer who specializes in the teen  space, the unique and different can be hard to find. The teen market is savvier than ever –  “The Wall Street Journal'”  recently published “Make Room for Junior Decorators” http://on.wsj.com/hT42zV a lifestyle article supporting the growing demands of teen decorators.  I am in the process of working on two boys’ tween bedrooms and both of the boys I am working with have very definite color and furniture opinions. One wants orange and the other red. One hates brown and the other feels like his room is a cavern and both want to make a statement with their newly redesigned big boy spaces.  As the tastes of teens and tweens have become very discriminating, I have compiled some of my most recent favorite finds at affordable prices. Take a peek and happy room redo’s:

Desig- Legacy.com                                                Rebecca Plotnick under $50

Kartell Lights $149 www.neenaslighting.com                     Marshmallow Bench $749

James Rocker EQ3.com $499                                   Loopy Loo Shade Puremodern.com $48

Love It! Literally, for your Teen Room

Love was in the air at the Atlanta Gift Show or maybe I was feeling a little cold in the 3 austere office buidlings home to the myriad of giftable vendors. But, these kitschy items found in GA and elsewhere will take your room from PB Teen ordinary to extraordinary. Check out my finds:

Elite Floor Pillows                                                         Attitudes Bunching Ottomans

Three Hands Bling Love Sign                                Delia’s Denim Heart Pillow

Teen Karma – Do You Have it in Your Room?

Last week I was at the Vegas Furniture Market and I ran into my favorite teen soft goods manufacturer, Karma Living. I was reminded yet again how much I LOVE teen and tween room merchandise and especially Karma Living. As a designer in touch with their youthful spirit I decided to add an ongoing blog column which will feature artists and products that will make a teen’s room to die for. I can’t wait to keep the spotlight on emerging teen room trends, so check back often to see what’s next:

Here’s what I love about Karma Living:

– Unbelievable, bright and happy color combinations
– Sheer ready made burn-out drapery panels that not even PBTeen can compete with.
– Oversized Boho floor pillows like none other
– Embroidered bed coverlets that only Pine Cone Hill rivals but for double the price
– FRINGE, FRINGE and more FRINGE for the privacy that any teen must have for their room!

Now that your senses have been whet, the only problem is that Karma Living is not readily available online.  (Amazon had a few items). If you are interested in more information or in placing an order, please feel free to contact me at kbwolf@btweenspaces.com.

Tween Boy Room – Ski Bum

Lately, the tween/teen home market seems neglected. Pottery Barn Teen has looked the same for the past year with little new product introductions and JC Penney, another great resource for this market is also short on the goods. Despite the recession, teens still want their style. While looking for a client of mine, I happily stumbled on this great site with all hand made ski related home items. Not only is the company green (using recycled skis) but their designs are actually stylish. This bench in particular caught my eye and the coat racks.  Just waiting for PB Teen to knock these off. In the interim, go to www.recycledskis.com for pricing and more info.

Btween Teens – Peace Out

Peace Out or In? for Tween Rooms

If you think it’s been done, think again. With Woodstock’s 40th anniversary this past Sept. it’s time to share the love with the evergreen peace symbol. Check out this chair I found on room service’s website. Imagine that in your daughter’s room!
